To Suit

It started with David Attenborough.

It became something else entirely.

To Suit looks at the absurdity, beauty and risk of ‘courting’ - comparing behaviours of human beings and birds, and in doing so, seeks to unpick expectations of gender normativity within relationships.

Alys and Charlie sing, dance - and Charlie wears a fabulous dress.

The work premiered in 2015, and over 4 years of ongoing development and performances became a regular meeting point for Lizzie and performers Alys and Charlie to reflect upon their own changing experiences of dating, sex and relationships.

They are human but recognisably bird, the two blending into each other, illuminating the convergences between the species and, perhaps, showing ourselves to ourselves.
